Upgrading from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7

Yesterday Ia drupal developer upgraded from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7. It was straight forward with one gotcha. I should have deleted all files and folders apart from sites. I did not ....

So I switched theme to Garland, turned off all modules and copied the latest Drupal head over the my Drupal 6 files and ran update.php.

However what  I failed to anticipate was that a left over block.php.tpl in Garland from Drupal 6 was causing my Drupal 7 theme to lock up.

The workaround was to copy "modules/block/block.tpl.php" into "themes/garland/", replacing the old D6 block.

Pay per Link

Never pay for links, ensure you site is worthy of page 1.

One of the practises most disliked by Goole is the distortion of their search engine results by  people who pay for links

Consider the story of the old bull and the young bull

The young bull says lets run into that field and get a cow each, the old bull says, no lets walk into that field and GET ALL OF THEM

If you were trying to limit the effect of pay per link on your search engine would you:-

Hidden Text

This incurs penalities, typically it could be 30 days if a manual penalty is applied. If the hidden text is identified by the algorithm, then the inability of keywords to move up towards page 1 may happen sooner than this, once the problem has been corrected.
